The Echo Design Group Celebrates 80 Years of Design
(New York, NY - May 2003) The Echo Design Group, Inc., one of the
oldest and most successful family-run businesses in the fashion
industry, celebrates its 80th anniversary in September 2003. Beginning
as a
scarf company, this accessories and home design house is creating
new products, developing a broader clientele, working with exciting
companies and expanding into new markets.
The history of Echo is
as multi-faceted as the many colors, fabrics, patterns and prints
found in its collections. On September 27, 1923, Edgar C. Hyman
and his wife Theresa founded Echo, based on their firm personal
dedication to creativity, service and quality. Eight decades later,
the company
remains family owned, with EdgarÆs daughter Dorothy Roberts at the helm and the third generation of the family carrying on EdgarÆs founding principles.
Today, Echo designs extensive collections under its own Echo brand,
through private label and licensing agreements. EchoÆs collection of licensees includes: Polo, Ralph Lauren, Lauren by Ralph Lauren, Polo Jeans, Adrienne Vittadini, Laura Ashley and The Museum of Natural History. Echo is also very proud to have earned a reputation as the premiere custom accessory resource in the fashion industry. Many of EchoÆs exciting projects have been custom-designed products for major retailers, prominent museums, corporations, airlines and historical societies. This spring, The Echo Design Group partnered with The ViewÆs Joy Behar on a scarf to benefit The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF). The Echo Design Group also owns Monsac, a leading luxury leathergoods brand, and is launching its new Echo handbag line.
Due to the Echo brand reputation for print, pattern and color, leading
manufacturers in the home industry sought EchoÆs
expertise for their products. Echo launched its first home collection
in 1992 and currently licenses a complete line of wallpaper, decorative
fabrics
and trim, bedding, area rugs and throws, paper goods, bath coordinate
ensembles and decorative pillows with leading companies including
FSC Wallcoverings,
Kravet Fabrics, Revman Industries, Trade Am, C. R. Gibson and Creative
Bath. As design experts, The Echo Design Group published Time at
Home (2001) and
A Home for All Seasons (1998), conceived by Meg and Steven Roberts,
two coffee table books of exquisite photos and text published by
Harry N. Abrams,
Inc.
The Echo Design Group is truly an American success story!
